LAST WEEK'S PROGRAM

Michael Fritz introduced Charles Campbell, Assistant Attorney General with the Constitutional Defense in the Chief Justice Moore Case.  He talked about the "10 Commandment Monument Case."

Charles said he was a third generation Kiwanian, following his grandfather and father.  He is a member of the Capitol City Club. [Click here to see Capitol City Club website.]

He pointed out that our law is based on the Common Law (Britain) and is the best of Common Law.  It was pointed out that there are four inscriptions on the sides of the 10 Commandments monument.  There are other historical references such as "In God We Trust," phrases from the Declaration of Independence, etc.  It was also pointed out that several states have such monuments in their government buildings.  Various have gone to court and the decision concerning their monuments have been in the affirmative.  These cases give support to Chief Justice Moore's case.  Commenting on the Chief Justice's case, Charles said he has a photographic memory and is surprising in his recall of the law.  It was mentioned that the artist who made the monument is from Huntsville.

To support the case, there is a statue of Moses in the Supreme Court Building in Washington, D.C.  It is inscribed with references to the sayings of Moses and the Constitution.  It has not been challenged. [Click here for article.]

The challenge to the constitutionality of the monument in the State Supreme Court Buildings will be answered by a decision of the Federal Supreme Court November 18th of this year.

DALRAIDA SCHOOL LUNCHEON

After today's meeting, Ken Carrick and fellow Club members will go to Dalraida School.  (Lunch was to have been provided to the teachers, however this was changed due to a special holiday-related meal today.)  Club members will watch the classes during their lunch in order for the teachers to enjoy their lunch.  Ken will be the host as usual.  This is an annual thing that the Club has done for several years.  The teachers really appreciate our doing this activity.

SPECIAL INVITATION TO A PARTY

Chris Lafferty said in the preceding weeks that her husband, Brad, is retiring from the Air Force after 22 years of service.  She will host a retirement party for him December 2nd at 6:30 p.m. at their home, 4437 Plummer Drive.  [Click here for map.]  RSVP is requested by calling 396-3823.  Chris will be reminding us of the date and give us directions.  There will be plenty of food, so she hopes many of us will attend the party.
